Alpine TrusSteel System Specifications
The Alpine TrusSteel system was developed in January 1996 in response to a need for an efficient and cost-effective light gauge steel truss that’s easy to design and install. Truss products from the company are proprietary, patented, cold-formed steel sections used to fabricate pitched or flat cold-formed trusses suited for light commercial and residential applications.
Allied Studco manufactures multiple chord depths in several gauges along with 1 1/2" square and 1 1/2" x 3 1/2" rectangular web sections in three gauges to ensure maximum efficiency and design flexibility while significantly reducing the need for permanent in-plane and out-of-plane web bracing. When you consider design/engineering, fabrication, packaging, and installation, Alpine TrusSteel is the most cost-effective solution for the shortest jack trusses on up to 70' plus clear spans.
Uses
Alpine TrusSteel systems are increasingly being used specifically on structures needing to meet non-combustible and long-clear span requirements, such as schools, care facilities, hotels/motels, churches, and other commercial and institutional properties. It is also widely used in residential roof and floor applications since it’s compatible with steel C studs, wood studs, structural steel, CMU support, and other wall systems.
With projects on a budget, the Alpine TrusSteel system is the most cost-effective choice compared to fire retardant lumber, concrete, bar joist, and other non-combustible framing products.
Recognitions
The Alpine TrusSteel system truss chord section properties are recognized under ICBO ER 5226. On August 6, 1999, Allied Studco passed a roof-ceiling fire test at the Underwriters Laboratories (UL), a testing facility in Northbrook, IL. This test was conducted under ANSI/UL 263, the Standard for Safety of Fire Tests of Building Construction Materials.
The roof-ceiling assembly met the standard's requirements for a 1-1/2 hr. unrestrained and restrained assembly rating. As a result, UL has promulgated four fire-rated designs (two roof-ceiling and two floor-ceiling) utilizing Alpine TrusSteel system cold-formed trusses and USG Type C board published in UL's year 2000 Fire Resistance Directory.
Authorized Alpine Fabricator
Alpine TrusSteel system cold-formed trusses are available from PSS, an authorized Alpine fabricator. Project layouts, component designs, and project costs are obtained directly from us using Alpine TrusSteel engineering software developed by Alpine Enterprises. Alpine Engineering reviews and certifies individual truss component designs for all 50 states.
Advantages of the Alpine TrusSteel System:
- Symmetrical sections and in-plane geometry produce a truss with an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio that makes handling, packaging, and installation much easier than comparable systems.
- It can offer pitched roofs while meeting non-combustible requirements and, in some instances, eliminate draft stops and sprinkler systems and their associated costs.
- Patented chord sections and both square and rectangular webbing ensure maximum efficiency while greatly reducing the need for permanent in-plane and out-of-plane web bracing.
- It has benefits normally associated with steel construction: predictably priced, non-combustible, dimensionally stable, environmentally friendly, and bug-proof.
- With Alpine TrusSteel, delivery schedules and turnaround times can be accelerated versus bar joist-type products.
- It is cost-effective because clear spans up to 70′ plus mean larger open space and increased design flexibility.
- The single-source manufacturing of chord and web sections ensures savings over competing systems.
